Music Ministry

“God has bestowed upon his people the gift of song. God dwells within each human person . . . God, the giver of song, is present whenever his people sing his praises.”

-Sing to the Lord: Music in Divine Worship

As members of the gathered assembly, you are already a part of the most important choir at the Cathedral. You are the primary enactors of the liturgy – the work of the people, and you are called and blessed to be able to join your voices in praise to God. When our hearts, minds, and voices are united, every song is a prayer.

All parishioners with a passion for music are invited to delve deeper into music ministry at the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Rosary. We will find a place for your talents!

Cathedral Choir

The Cathedral Choir is a dedicated group of volunteer singers. Choir members are expected to attend regular weekly rehearsals, Thursdays from 6:30-8pm and participate in Mass on Sunday mornings at 10:30 AM September-May. The Cathedral Choir sings a varied repertoire ranging from Gregorian chant to newly composed works. They alternate singing from the organ loft and the piano every other weekend. In addition to Sunday morning Masses, our choir members act as music ministers at a variety of Cathedral and Diocesan functions and special services. The Cathedral Choir is open to all parishioners 9th grade and above, and we are always accepting new members.

Cathedral Choristers

For youth in grades 4-8, the Cathedral Choristers build skills in healthy singing and develop a sense of ensemble while learning a diverse repertoire of Catholic liturgical music. They rehearse Wednesdays from 6:30-7:15 PM and sing at Masses and special events several times during the school year.

Cantors

These liturgical leaders are typically drawn from the Cathedral Choir. The cantor acts as the primary Psalmist and encourages the assembly’s participation in sung prayer through leading the sung acclamations and hymns with confident vocalism and gesture.
