“God has bestowed upon his people the gift of song. God dwells within each human person . . . God, the giver of song, is present whenever his people sing his praises.”
-Sing to the Lord: Music in Divine Worship
The role of the assembly is special. Those in the gathered assembly are the primary enactors of the liturgy – the work of the people. As the primary enactors they are, therefore, also the primary music ministers.
Any parishioner with a passion for music is invited to delve deeper into music ministry at the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Rosary. We will find a place for your talents! In addition to Sunday morning Masses, our choirs act as liturgical leaders at a variety of Cathedral and Diocesan functions and special services. Choir members are expected to attend regular weekly rehearsals, and participate in Mass on Sunday mornings at 8:00 AM and 10:30 AM September-May. The minimum age for membership in the choirs is 9th grade. Cantors are typically drawn from the choirs. Singers and musicians who would like to participate in our music ministry should contact Jennifer Campbell, Cathedral Choir Director, or Jacqueline Holstrom, Cathedral Director of Music at email@example.com or 728-3646.
The Gallery Choir sings on alternating Sundays from the choir loft, accompanied by the organ. This group sings primarily traditional music and practices on Thursdays from 6:30-7:30 PM.
The Folk Choir sings from the front of the church with the piano and other instruments on alternating Sundays. This group sings traditional and folk music and practices on Thursdays from 7:30-8:30 PM.
The Rosary Ringers are the Cathedral’s handbell choir. Performance times for this group vary, but they are typically used for Mass once per month and for festive services. The Ringers rehearse on Tuesdays from 6:00-7:00 PM.
